Brahmanandam is the son of teacher Kanneganti Nagalingachari and his wife Kanneganti Lakshmi Narsamma who was a housewife. On 14th January 2019, Brahmanandam underwent a successful heart bypass surgery at Asian Heart Institute (AHI) in Mumbai. He is married with Lakshmi Kanneganti and they having two children's two sons, Raja Gautam and Siddart. Andhra Pradesh high court asked Brahmanandam to return their Padma Shri awards:	The controversy erupted when the recipients carried the title of Padma Shri as prefix in the credits of the controversial film "Denikina Ready" (2012). BJP leader N Indrasena Reddy had alleged that both the senior actors used prefix of Padma Shri to their names in the credits of the movie. The Andhra Pradesh high court on Monday asked Telugu film actors Mohan Babu and Brahmanandam to return their Padma Shri awards for violation of rules accompanying them.
